Kids In Competitive Sport

Call us on 03 9431 0331 or book an appointment online for a nutritional analysis and assessment of your growing athlete.

Kids in competitive sport have the nutritional requirements of both a child and an athlete. Food acts as fuel for normal growth and development as well as optimal physical performance, immune function, repair and development of muscle tone.

Competitive athletes have increased needs for some micronutrients such as iron, magnesium, zinc and calcium, which are common nutritional deficiencies in children generally. Through dietary analysis we can establish if they are getting all that they need for their age and gender and make adjustments as necessary to account for increased training or recovery periods.

Hydration is also important as thirst is not a good indicator of fluid losses in children. They experience heat stress/heat accumulation and therefore dehydration much faster than adults. Signs include headaches, nausea, muscle cramps, reduced sweating and increased heart rate.

Remed nutritional specialises works closely with your child’s coach and/or physiotherapist to optimise your child’s physical performance.
